The original Baltimore Bays were founder members of the National Professional Soccer League in 1967. They spent the 1968 and 1969 seasons playing in the North American Soccer League. The club was operated by the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles decided to disband the franchise in October 1969. It was said that the Bays had lost $1,000,000 during its three years of operation.

A new Baltimore Bays club returned for the 1972 soccer season. The new Bays decided to only play in exhibition games. Before the start of the 1973 season they joined the American Soccer League.

In addition to playing in the American Soccer League in the 1973 season, the Baltimore Bays played in number of exhibition games.

In their first game of the 1973 season Baltimore Bays defeated touring English club Bristol City.

After just 25 seconds of play Bristol City took the lead.

Nana evened the score at 18:40 of the first half.

12,976 fans watched the second match between the Bays and Santos.

June 19, 1973 Baltimore Bays 0, Santos 4

Another crowd of 12,000 turned up at Memorial Stadium four days later, for the third match between the Bays and Santos. This was the Brazilian club’s last game of their American tour.

The last game of the Bays’ exhibition season was played at Homewood Field at John Hopkins University.
