Review of the Season

The American Soccer League operated with eight clubs in two divisions. Newcomers to the league were Philadelphia Spartans and Syracuse Scorpions.

The Southern Division consisted of Newark Ukrainian Sitch, Philadelphia Spartans, Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals and the Washington Darts.

In the Northern Division the clubs were Boston Astros, New York Inter, Rochester Lancers and Syracuse Scorpions.

Washington Darts won the 1969 ASL Championship by defeating Syracuse Scorpions in the playoff final.

After the season the Rochester Lancers and Washington Darts joined the North American Soccer League. New York Inter merged with Giuliana and joined the German-American League.

Philadelphia Spartans’ head coach Walter Bahr recieved the Manager of the Year award.

1969 Coach of the Year

Washington Darts’ player-coach Lincoln Phillips recieved the Coach of the Year award.

1969 Most Valuable Player

1969 ASL Leading goalscorer Jim Lefkos, Syracuse Scorpions, was voted as the Most Valuable Player.

1969 Rookie of the Year

Bobby DiLuca of the Rochester Lancers recieved the Rookie of the Year ward.

1969 Most Improved Player

Klievecka of the Philadelphia Spartans recieved the Most Improved Player award.
