Review of the Season
The American Soccer League operated with seven teams in the 1968-69 season. The league decided to cut short its season so that it could move for a summer schedule in 1969.
The clubs in the ASL were Fall River Astros, Hartford Kings, Newark Ukrainian Sitch, New York Inter, Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals, Rochester Lancers and Washington Darts.

The season kicked off on August 3, 1968, when Rochester Lancers hosted Fall River Astros.

The Washington Darts clinched the American Soccer League Championship when they defeated the Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals, 1-0, on December 1. This was the first professional sports title in 28 years for any team from Washington.
